Viola E. Mudd

Viola E. Mudd, age 97, of Gorham, Kansas died Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays, Hays, Kansas. She was born May 14, 1920, on the family farm south east of Gorham, Kansas, to Thomas Ignatius and Mary Anna (Flavin) Mudd.

Viola was a clerk for Shell Oil Company in Los Angeles, California for 27 years. She retired in 1974 and made her home in Hays. She grew up in the Gorham area, went to grade school at the Winterset country school and was a 1938 graduate of St. Mary Catholic High in Gorham and attended Marymount College in Salina. She taught school for a few years at Winterset, Empire and Roosevelt all south of Gorham. She worked at the Walker Air Force Base and Plainsmen Supply in Hays before moving to California. She was a homemaker, a world traveler and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays.

Survivors include five nephews, Harlan Mudd and wife, Sylvia, Russell, KS; Darrell Mudd, Estes Park, CO; Lee Mudd and wife, Marya, Stafford, VA; Flavian Mudd , Overland Park, KS; Richard Polcyn, Russell, KS; one niece, Jean Crawford and husband, Glenn, Natoma, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bernard Mudd and wife, Alice, and Paul Mudd and wife, Isabelle; one sister, Clemence Polcyn and husband, Florian; and one infant sister, Mary Olive Mudd.

Services are 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 27, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gorham, Kansas. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Gorham, Kansas.

Visitation is from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. Monday, with a family rosary at 10:00 A.M. Monday, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Gorham, Kansas.

Memorials to St. Mary Catholic Church or St. Mary Cemetery both at Gorham, Kansas.
