Vernon Baier

Vernon J. Baier, age 90, of Hays, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. He was born April 11, 1922 in Hays, KS. to John W. and Anna V. (Wiesner) Baier. He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1940. He married Irene Schmidt on January 10, 1943. She preceded him in death in October of 2005.

Vernon was a veteran of the US Army Air force serving in the Philippines during WWII. He retired from the Hays post office, was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Marys Council 6984 and the Hays VFW. He enjoyed working on antique cars, fishing and collecting.

He is survived by a daughter, Gloria Brungardt and husband Allen of Hays; a sister Vivian Williams of Nacogdoches, TX; a sister-in-law Carol Schmidt of Hays; two grandsons Jeff Brungardt and Jerold Brungardt and wife Amy all of Hays, a granddaughter Kerri Dreher and husband Steve of Hutchinson; seven great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

He was preceded by his parents, a twin brother Virgil Baier, and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery with military honors by the Hays VFW.

Visitation will be Friday 5:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. and Saturday 9:00 A.M. 9:30 A.M. all at Brocks North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601.

A parish vigil service will be Friday at 6:15 P.M. followed by a K of C St. Marys Council 6984 rosary at 7:00 P.M. all at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to TMP-Marian or for Masses.
