Verle E. 'Doc' Montgomery

Hays, Kansas Verle E. "Doc" Montgomery Jr., age 88, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays. He was born June 24, 1929, in Jamestown, Kansas to Verle and Kathryn (Haskins) Montgomery Sr. He married Iris "Rusty" (Russ) on December 14, 1950 at Jamestown, Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2005.

Doc was a salesman of specialty advertising items for over 25 years in Hays and the northwest Kansas area. He grew up in Jamestown, Kansas, attended Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colorado and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Doc moved to Hays, Kansas in 1961, he was manager of Wards for 13 years and then was manager of Sears for 9 years both in Hays.

Survivors include two sons, David Montgomery and wife, Susan, Eagan, MN; Robert Montgomery, Fayetteville, AK; two daughters, Jeanne Miller, Kaw City, OK; Amy Beam and husband, Greg, Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Linda Whitehead, Concordia, KS; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one son-in-law, Gary Miller.

A celebration of his life will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

The family suggest memorials to the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.
