Obituary
Vera Jane Francis (Cassity) Storer, age 86, of Hays, passed away Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 at Hays Medical Center just two days shy of her 87th birthday. She was born July 28th, 1935 in Kincaid, KS to Wilmer "Buck" and Esther (Burlingham) Cassity. She married Donald Storer on September 8th, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church in Hays. He preceded her in death on April 6th, 2012.
She was a graduate of Garnett High School and Sisters of Charity Hospital of St. Mary's College in Leavenworth, KS. She was a 40-year registered nurse working for Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom as well as Hadley Hospital in Hays. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hays and a Girl Scout leader. Vera was a passionate cook and baker; she adored reading and watching any good mystery. Above all, she was a zealous Kansas sports fan, with the exception of KU. Vera was also devoted to watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in whatever sport they were involved in, rarely missing a game or track meet.
She is survived by two sons, Dave (Debbie) Storer and Doug (Erin) Storer all of Hays; two daughters Lisa (Troy) Renz of Hays and Lori (Jim) Foster of Ransom; a sister Helen Miller of Garnett, KS; a brother-in-law Dale Akers of Hays; two sisters-in-law Beverly Turner of Hill City, and Margie Cassity of Hoisington; She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jeff (Hayley) Bieker, Greg (Kassie) Bieker, Dustin (Stephanie) Foster, Taylor (Ashlyn) Renz, Hunter Storer, Courtney (Ryan) Gushi, Drew Foster, and Logan Renz, as well as five great-grandchildren, Brooke, Owen, and August Bieker; Harrison and Hayden Foster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Herman 'Bud' Cassity and Robert 'Bob' Cassity, and three sisters Jeane Lankard, Marjorie 'Tootie' Akers, and infant Nina Ruth Cassity.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 1st, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Hays. Burial will be in Vansburgh Cemetery near Brownell.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 31st, 2022 from 6:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. at Brocks Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Cedar Bluff South Shore Cabin Association or to HaysMed Hospice.
