Thomas Wasinger

Thomas William Wasinger, 84, a lifelong resident of Hays and a current resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Ellis, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on October 29, 1938, in Hays, Tom was a son of Alfred F. and Catherine (Nussbaum) Wasinger. 

After completing his education at Hays High School, Tom answered the call of duty and enlisted with the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in October 1962. Shortly thereafter, on December 29, 1962, he embarked on a lifelong journey of love and partnership, marrying Rita M. Lauber in Victoria, Kansas.

Tom was a dedicated and hardworking individual, dedicating 38 years of his life to Midwest Energy in Hays, where he worked in the Gas Department until his well-deserved retirement in 1998. When he wasn't busy with work, Tom cherished his spare time. He was a passionate league bowler and an avid fisherman, finding solace and enjoyment in these pursuits.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Rita, who resides at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellis. He is also survived by his son, Thomas W. Wasinger Jr., and two daughters, Charlotte and Julie, all of Hays.

Tom leaves behind a brother, Alfred F. Wasinger, and two sisters, Louise Walters and Sharon Lang. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred F. and Catherine, as well as two brothers, Roger and Gene.

Funeral services to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 11, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Prior to the service, friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will begin at 10 AM and continue until service time. Following the service, Tom will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Good Samaritan Society of Ellis or St. Mary's Church.
