Theresa Romero

Theresa J. Romero (age 80) of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Hays Medical Center after a long illness. She was born on July 22, 1943, in Koehler, New Mexico, the daughter of Enrique Romero and Corina Arellano Romero.

Growing up on the family farm in New Mexico, she learned to drive tractors and drove the school bus. Theresa found joy in reading, watching western movies, and crocheting. Playing cards and tuning in to Wheel of Fortune every night were among her favorite pastimes.

Theresa is preceded in death by her parents, Enrique and Corina Romero, her brother Hank Romero, and her sister Edna Romero.

She is survived by six sisters: Mary A Quinones of Hays, KS; Betty Sanchez of Maxwell, NM; Doris DeSimone and her husband, Richard, of Albuquerque, NM; Inez Varela of Penrose, CO; Angel Criswell and her husband, Grady, of Cimarron , NM; Marguerite Romero Rivas and her husband Ron Rivas of Colorado Springs, CO; and two brothers: Fred Romero of Monrovia, CA; and Conrad Romero and his wife, Karen Romero, of Maxwell, NM; and many nieces and nephews.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor her memory.
