Obituary



Thelma Joan Karlin, 84, of Hays, KS passed away on June 1, 2020 at Via Christi Village, Hays. She was born April 8, 1936 in Catharine, KS to William R. and Pauline (Doerfler) Staab. On October 6, 1953, she was married to Joseph C. Karlin at St. Catherine Church in Catharine, KS. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2011.

Thelma was a homemaker and seamstress. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Kansas City Royals and the Wichita State Shockers. She was also a member of the VFW Auxilliary. Family and friends will always remember her sweet smile.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeaninne Kaberlein (Bill), Coleen Shields, and Sue Taylor (Rob), all of Hays; three sons, Thomas Karlin (Margaret) of Colby, KS, Lawrence Karlin (Sheila) of Garden City, KS and Paul Karlin (Darla), Hays; a sister, Henrietta Karlin, Hays and a brother, Gerald Staab (June), of Longmont, CO; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, along with many members of her extended family, who were also her very dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Karlin; a son Joseph William Karlin; her sister, Laurinda Rome and two brothers, Edward Staab and William R. Staab, Jr.



Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, June 5, 2020 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hays, with interment following the services in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 4, 2020 from 6-8 PM with a combined parish vigil and rosary service at 7 PM at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS and on Friday from 9-9:45 AM prior to services also at the chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice at HaysMed.
