Simon P. Roth Jr., 88, attorney at law, passed away July 17, 2015 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinsons disease. Simon was born on October 25, 1926 in Hays, Kansas, one of four children of Simon and Theckla (Rupp) Roth. He married Rita Wasinger on September 1, 1949. Simon and Rita have four children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Simon graduated from St. Josephs Military Academy, Fort Hays State University and Washburn University Law School. He served in the US Navys Pacific Fleet during WWII. His legal career includes prior service as a member of the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights, a member of the Kansas Adult Authority, County Attorney and County Counselor for Ellis County, and Judge of the Ellis County Probate and Juvenile Court. He also served on the Thomas More Prep Advisory Board and the Hays Library Board.
Simon was preceded in death by his wife, Rita in 2006, a son, Simon Roth III in 2003, his parents, his brother, Raymond Roth and his two sisters, Dorothy Soderblom and Ruth Reverman.
He is survived by daughters, Deborah Kane and husband Bill of Grand Junction, CO, Denise McNickle and husband Andy of Wichita, KS; a son, Douglas Roth and wife Brenda of Wichita, KS as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held with burial in St. Joseph cemetery in Hays, Kansas.
