Shirley Slater

Shirley G Slater, 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Via Christy Village in Hays, KS. Shirley was born in Furnas County Nebraska to Robert Dale and Wilmetta Evelyn (Arnold) Bonham on August 14, 1935. She graduated from high school in Beaver City, NE in 1953. 

In 1954, she met her husband to be Leonard William Slater in Worland, WY. They were married on June 11, 1955 in Basin, WY. They are parents of two children, Donald Lee (Connie) Slater of Kansas City, MO and Karen Sue (Bill) Miller of Grain Valley, MO.

She worked in the business/insurance space for both hospitals as well as physician practices. She enjoyed assisting the patients and their families as they attempted to understand and complete the forms initially on paper and finally via computer.

She is survived by her children; sisters, Judy Cass of Chaska, MN and Bonnie Culver of Lincoln, NE; a sister-in-law, Dixie Zerr of Denver, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Bertryl Seybert of Longmont, CO, a son-in-law, Bill Miller of Grain Valley, MO and a step-granddaughter, Jenny Stroemel.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, KS at a later date.
