Roma Lee Mellick Blau

Roma Lee Mellick Blau died August 24, 2012 at Via Christi Village in Hays. She was born February 12, 1931, to Del and Addie (Winslow) Porter at Beardsley, KS. She graduated from Atwood Community High School in 1949. Roma Lee married Lyle Dean Mellick October 2, 1949. They had three children, Donald Dean, Ronald Gene and Melody Ann.

Roma Lee enjoyed her flowers, bowling, playing cards, collecting Santa Clauss and gambling. Her favorite past time was fishing and telling stories. She was district secretary for the Rawlins County Soil Conservation District for 24 years. Lyle Dean passed away May 12, 1993 at the age of 65 years. Roma Lee married Hale Blau of Brewster, KS on February 14, 1998. Hale passed away June 27, 2000.

Roma Lee lived in the house at 512 South Railroad Avenue in Atwood for 58 years. In 2009 she moved to Hays, KS and lived at Via-Christi Health Care Center until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Lyle Dean Mellick and Hale Blau; son, Donald; great-grandson, Harley Antholz; sister, Jennie and a brother, Russell Porter.

She is survived by her son Ron Mellick and wife Mary (Hays); daughter Melody Antholz and husband Eric (Riverton, NE). Three sisters; twin sister Norma Dee Holthus (Atwood); Idella Schriner (Dodge City); and Connie Gordon (Houston, TX). Six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 27th at the United Methodist Church, Atwood; burial in Atwood Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 PM 4:00 PM Sunday at Brocks North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine in Hays and Monday 9:30 AM until service time at the church.
