Robert A. "Wally", "Bob" Wahlmeier, age 79, of Hays, passed away Thursday, March 31st at his home. He was born on June 28, 1931 in Jennings, KS. to Aloysius and Ruth (Spohrer) Wahlmeier. He married Georgine Kreutzer in 1952. She preceded him in death in 1974. He married Catherine Gilsdorf Orth in 1975.Robert attended Fort Hays State College from 1949 - 1950, where he earned All-Conference Honors in football. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran. While stationed at Fort Sill, OK, he played for the Fourth Army Football team, winning the All Services National Championship. Following his army service, he signed with the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL, returning to Kansas after a career ending injury. He worked for Halliburton for 25 years retiring as a field service manager. After retiring, he established RAW Consulting, servicing the midwest for twenty plus years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph Church Choir, St. Joseph Council 1325 Knights of Columbus, Secular Franciscans, Board member of the Right to Life of Kansas, Inc., Perpetual Adorers, and the Hays American Legion. Robert loved well and deeply and will be greatly missed by all.He is survived by his wife, Catherine of the home; four sons: Mark (Julie) Wahlmeier, Thaddeus Wahlmeier all of Tulsa,OK, Camillus (Dorrene) Wahlmeier of Wamego, KS, and Nathaniel Wahlmeier (fiance, Elizabeth Metzger, Chillicothe, OH) of Noble, OK; seven daughters: Rose (Bob) Ponder of Sherman, TX, Joan Wahlmeier of Kent, WA, Germaine Wahlmeier of The Colony, TX, Roberta (Ed) Valdez of Ogden, UT, Cordelia (James) Stephan of Allen, TX, Bibianna (Jason) Maddox of Flower Mound, TX, and Jacinta Wahlmeier of Denver, CO; three step-sons: Joseph Orth of Bellevue, KY, John (Ginger) Orth of Loyal, WI, and Michael Orth of Statham, GA; six step-daughters, Joan (Roy) Handlang of St. Louis, MO, Margaret (John) Cosner of Gillette, WY, Mary Burks of Lilburn, GA, Martha (Vince) Ervin of Clemson, SC, Maureen (Bob) McDaniel of Rogersville, TN, and Judy (Jason) Berry of Denver, CO. Brothers: Hugh of Horseheads, NY, Galen of Kennedy, Saskatchewan Province, John of San Manuel, AZ, Louis of Colby, KS, and Carl of Jennings, KS; sisters: Loretta Byrnes of Glendora, CA, Rita Pallante of Mt. Holly, NJ, Sister Frances Cabrini Wahlmeier of Concordia, KS, Elaine Veach of Nashville, TN, and Jane Cassidy of Overland Park, KS. He leaves behind 53 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Georgine, son, Silverius Wahlmeier, three brothers, Norbert, Vincent and Paul and a sister, Virginia Bruggeman.Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will follow services in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion members.Visitation will be Sunday 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Brock's North Hill Chapel ~ 2509 Vine ~ Hays, KS. 67601.A Secular Franciscan wake service will be at 4:00 P.M., the Perpetual Adorers rosary will be at 5:00 P.M., the parish wake service will be at 6:00 P.M. followed by a St. Joseph Council # 1325 Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 P.M. all at the funeral home.
