Mr. Robert James “Bob” Dinges, age 88, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday evening, July 13, 2024, at Hamilton Hospital.
Graveside services will be 10:30 AM Monday, September 2, 2024 at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hays.
Bob was born on December 31, 1935, in Hays, Kansas, the son of the late Fidelis and Thecla (Ruder) Dinges. He was preceded in death by his: brother, Laverne Dinges; sisters, Luella (Dinges) Herrman, and Verlee (Dinges) Schmidt; and brothers-in-law Maynard Herrman and Ronald Lang.
After graduating high school in 1951, Bob joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Japan. He married Darlene Pfannenstiel, on October 29, 1960, and they settled in Hutchinson, Kansas. Bob later earned his college degree from Wichita State University. Bob worked for the Dillon/Kroger Corporation in Hutchinson, KS, and Cincinnati, OH, for over 30 years. After his retirement, they moved to Dalton, GA, and became members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where Bob was active in the church and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Bob is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 63 years; son Dr. David (Whitney) Dinges, Dalton, GA; daughter Lorelei (John) Peter, Rockville, MD; grandchildren: Nicholas Dinges, Aiken, SC; Benjamin (Anna) Dinges, Augusta, GA; Jackson (Erika) Dinges, Dalton, GA; Olivia (Price) Puryear; Dalton, GA; Jake Peter, Tampa, FL; Caroline Peter, Rockville, MD; step-grandchildren: Nate and Nash Smith, Dalton, GA; great grand-daughter, Brooklyn Dinges, Aiken, SC; sisters: Doris Lang, Kansas City, MO; Judy Withers, Hays, KS; and sister-in-law, Mildred Dinges, Hays, KS.
A mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. with Father Refugio Onate Melendez, Father Salomon Garcia, and Father Arturo Merriman officiating.
Inurnment services will be September 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hays, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Society (St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 968 Haig Mill Lake Road, Dalton, GA) or the Women’s Enrichment Center (109 W. Gordon St., Dalton, GA.)
