Rev. Lyle M. Knuth

The Rev. Lyle Martin Knuth, 74, died June 9, 2012, at his home in Ellis, Kansas.



He was born September 28, 1937, in Guymon, OK, and was a 1955 graduate of Texhoma High School, Texhoma, OK. He continued his education at St. John‘s junior college in Winfield, KS, and Concordia senior college in Fort Wayne, IN. He received his master's degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, and completed his internship at St. John's Lutheran Church in Decatur, IL.



Lyle served many communities as a pastor. He served several congregations in North Dakota (Pettibone and Woodworth), then St. Paul's in Minot, ND. In 1972, he accepted the pastoral call to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Cudahy, WI, where he met his loving wife of 34 years, Maribeth. He had also faithfully served the congregations at Hope Lutheran Church, Boise City, OK; Christ Lutheran Church, Elkhart, KS; and Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis, KS (eighteen years) before retiring in June 2007. Lyle enjoyed serving as a guest preacher until December 2011, and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Hays, KS.



Lyle is survived by his wife, Maribeth; their children, Tami Painter (Jeff) of Dolores, CO; Steve Danforth (Gloria) of Boise, ID; Julie Gorkowski (George) of Glendale, AZ; Susan Sagebiel (Dennis) of Glendale, AZ; Nathan Knuth (Pam) of Sioux Falls, SD; and Robert Danforth (Paula) of Garden City, KS. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.



Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 14th, 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2000 Main Street, Hays, KS, with Pastor Kenton Rohrberg officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.



Visitation for Lyle will be held Wednesday, June 13th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th Street, Ellis, KS. and Thursday 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.



A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Hospice Services, Phillipsburg, KS.
