Obituary
Norma Jean (Kuhn) Berens age 85 of Victoria, Kansas died Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.
She was born September 12, 1936 in Emmeram, Kansas to Leo J. and Catherine (Billinger) Kuhn. She married Vernon L. Berens on December 27, 1961 at Victoria. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2010.
She was an elementary school teacher for 36 years, and taught at the Victoria Grade School for 34 years. She also was a religious Education teacher for the parish at the Victoria Grade school and Norma Jean retired in 1997.
She grew up on the family farm at Emmeram, attended grade school in Emmeram, was a 1953 graduate of the Victoria High School, and received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University.
Norma was a cast member of the "Sweet and Sour Kraut" Show, a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, St. Fidelis Christian Mothers, St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella, V.F.W. Auxiliary all of Victoria. She enjoyed embroidering, sewing, gardening, playing the piano, playing cards and her family.
Survivors include her children, Michael Berens, Victoria, KS; Matthew Berens and wife, Alice, Hays, KS; Michelle Berens, Overland Park, KS; her grandchildren, Jenna Berens; Tia Berens; Devin Berens; Hogan Berens; Shelbie Keith and husband, Kevin; Shane Berens and fianc, Angel Bryant; her step-grandchildren, Maggie James; Emily James; Hannah James; Luke James; her brother, Bill Kuhn and wife, Sheila, Hays, KS; her two sisters, Myra Pinard and Doraleen Laprade, both of Hays, KS.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Milissa Rae Berens; her son, Mitch Berens; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Laprade.
A private family service will be held, and burial in St. Anns Cemetery, Walker, Kansas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas with Father James Moster officiating.
A vigil service and V.F.W. Auxiliary memorial service with a St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella and St. Fidelis Christian Mothers rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. this Friday evening, April 15, 2022, and vitiation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday evening, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
The family suggests memorials payable to the organization: The Basilica of St. Fidelis or St. Anns Cemetery in care of the mortuary.
