Neil Baltzell, 80, Hays, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Andbe Home, Norton. He was born July 27, 1933, in Peru to William and Caddy (Terrell) Baltzell. He married Barbara Duncan in 1953 in Dewey, Okla. He was a gas meter tech for Midwest Energy until retirement. He was a U.S Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed bowling, golf and woodworking. He was a member of the Hays Bowling Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Norton; a son, Ronald Baltzell, Salina; a daughter, Laura Beth Mahood and husband, Mike, Salina; a brother, Elba Baltzell, Carlsbad, N.M.; three grandchildren, Mandy Schumaker and husband, Shane, Norton, Jeffery Pfeifer and wife, Erin, Victoria, and Michael Pfeifer, Salina; and four great-grandchildren, Nataley and Lauryn Schumaker, Gracie McDonald and Brantley Pfeifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hugh and William Baltzell; and six sisters, Pauline Helton, Helen Morlan, Gertie Counts, Lorean Jones, Ruby James and Minifee Runyan.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's research or diabetes research in care of the funeral home
