Mildred "Mickey" Haselhorst passed away August 30, 2012 in Hays, Kansas.



Mickey was born November 17, 1924 to John Jacob Streck and Maria Magdalena Streck (ne Berschauer) in Russell, Kansas. She was a graduate of Russell High School, class of 1942. She married Marion Sterling Cann in 1944. This union was blessed with a son, Dr. Michael Sterling Cann.



She married Vern Haselhorst in 1966. After traveling with Vern to various working locations including Anchorage, Alaska and Corpus Christi, Texas they settled in Great Bend, Kansas.



Mickey practiced as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Hays for many years. She was known in the hospital neonatal unit as the loving nurse who could calm any baby with her infamous blanket wrap. She was passionate about spectator sports and politics, loved working crossword puzzles, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her wry wit.



She retired and lived in Hays until her death. Mickey was preceded in death by her cocker spaniel, Elmo. She is survived by her son, Dr. Michael Cann of La Canada, California; sister Lillian Craig and brother Dr. John Streck, both of Hays, Kansas; two grandsons, Michael S. Cann Jr. of San Francisco, California and John David Cann of Brooklyn, New York; a great-granddaughter Siya Marie Cann of Brooklyn, New York; and a host of friends and other family members.



Private family graveside services were held Friday, August 31, 2012 at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.
