Obituary



Mildred Dechant, age 95, of Hays, Kansas passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in Hays. She was born August 25, 1926, in Ellis County, Kansas to Ed and Anna (Giest) Hoff. She married Gregory Dechant and he preceded her in death August 11, 1979.

Mildred was a long-time caregiver and had worked for LINK as well as worked on her farm with her husband Gregory. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

She is survived by a brother, Elmer Hoff of Hays; grandchildren, Robert Strachan, and Lori Riedel both of Hays; three great grandchildren, Kayla Riedel, and Terry Davis both of Hays and Deannea Riedel of Nebraska; and three great-great grandchildren, Lilly, Kaiser, and Gabriel Riedel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Kathleen Strachan; and three sisters, Elva Buchanan, Gertrude Bieker and Emil Hoff.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Monday, July 18, 2022, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Hays with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday 6 PM 8 PM and Monday 9 AM -9:30 AM all at Brocks-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

A Combined parish vigil and rosary service will be 7 PM Sunday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of the High Plains, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, or St. Josephs Catholic Church.
