Obituary



Michael Lee McKinney, age 69, of Hays, Kansas died in his home on June 28, 2022. He was born May 29, 1953, in Ellis, Kansas to Chester Lee and Bonnie Jean (Mickelson) McKinney.

He married Deborah (Gutierrez) Rico on August 13, 1979, in Meade, Kansas.

Michael grew up in Meade. In 1971 he graduated from Meade High School and following his graduation he served 4 years in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975 and was a Vietnam Veteran.

He is survived by his brother: Dave of Hays, Kansas; sisters: Pam Ackerman of Meade, Kansas; and Carol Jones of San Antonio, Texas. Step-daughters: Jennifer Moore; Crystal Rico; Laurena Rico; a step-brother: Jimmy DeLong, and a step-sister: Pam McGee; together with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother: Everett; sister: Connie Ritter; and his step-brother: Joe DeLong.

Graveside services, inclusive of military honors, at the State of Kansas Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney, 403 South 13th Street WaKeeney, Kansas 67672, will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 10:00 AM.
