Michael Charles Haas, age 41, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Saturday December 22, 2012.
Michael was born June 12, 1971 in Denver, Colorado to Norbert "Chuck" Haas and Geraldine "Jean" (Graff) Haas. He graduated from Bear Creek High School in Littleton, Colorado and then moved with his parents to San Diego, California where he attended the University of California, San Diego for three years. Michael moved to Lawrence, Kansas to complete his education and graduated with a B.A. in Architecture and a Minor in Art History from the University of Kansas in 2001. He then received his Master in Architecture from the University of Kansas in 2004. While in graduate school, Michael traveled to Europe to study architectural design and also worked on the Studio 804 design team who constructed modular housing, which was the 2004 recipient of the distinguished Wood Design Award and Home of the Year Award.
Michael was employed at AECOM Technology Corporation of Kansas City, Missouri as an Architectural Designer. Michael started off as an Architectural Intern with Ellerbe Becket (later AECOM) in August of 2006. Michael was currently working on a new soccer stadium for Marshall University. He was also involved in projects such as the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank, Barclays Center Arena for the Brooklyn Nets in Brooklyn, NY, as well as design studies for Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, ME. He was a gifted computer renderer and was sought after in the office to assist in that capacity. He took on the challenge of a temporary relocation to the AECOM San Francisco office for a year to provide computer design expertise and Revit training to that office for the Portland Kaiser healthcare project. Michael was described by his team members as a very talented architect who had a great personality and an encyclopedic knowledge of sports trivia.
