Merle Patrick Jacobs

Merle Patrick Jacobs passed away peacefully September 10, 2014 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan. He was born March 16, 1955 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Hays. He was 59 years old.



Merle graduated from Victoria High School in 1973 and attended Fort Hays State University. In addition to working on the family farm he worked at the Victoria Lumber Company and Gordon's Carpet Center. He was a member of the Holy Cross Charities, Inc. board. He was very mechanically inclined and had many talents including woodworking and restoring windmills. Merle loved western movies, collecting arrowheads and being outdoors, especially fishing the Smoky Hill River on the farm. He enjoyed visiting and telling stories of the good ol' days.



He is survived by and will be missed by brothers Chesley (Adrienne) of Spring Valley, Ill; William of Pfeifer; sister Jane Silvia of Bellevue, Neb.; nephews Daniel and Thomas Silvia; nieces Karen Silvia, Jamie and Lindsay Jacobs; and aunts Teckla Hammersmith of Ellinswood and Rita Graf-Dreiling of Russell. He leaves behind many cousins and extended family, friends and his loyal dog, Shadow.



He is preceded in death by his parents William and Sophia (Graf) Jacobs of rural Pfeifer, Kan.



The family would like to thank the staff at the Hays Medical Center and Ellis Good Samaritan Center for their kindness and care.



Services will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Holy Cross Church in Pfeifer. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.



Visitation will be Saturday 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
