Mary Pearson

Mary E. Pearson, age 91, of Ellis, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. She was born May 7, 1921 in Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada to Jack and Mary (Young) Earl. She was a graduate of Hays High and also received a Bachelors Degree from Fort Hays State University. She married Rex K. Pearson on March 6, 1943 in Miami, Florida. He preceded her in death November 14, 1999.



Mary spent the early part of her married life moving throughout the United States with her husband who was serving in the Navy. After settling in Ellis she became very active in the Ellis community. She was a longtime journalist and editor of the Ellis Review, she helped start the Red Cross Swimming Program, past school board member as well as serving in various community services. Mary was a past member of the Congregational Church and a current member of Ellis United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.



Mary is survived by a son, Thomas Pearson of Ogallah, KS; a daughter, Gay Menscer of Hope Mills, NC; two sisters, Jean Smith of Colorado Springs and Patsy Teller of Hays; two grandchildren, Mark Menscer and Jessica Gillis; a great granddaughter, Jodi Gillis and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex, her parents, a brother, Jack Earl Jr.; and three sisters, Anna Mae Trudell, Elsie Bea Emerich and Janet Sue Earl.



Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 16 at the Ellis United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis.



Visitation will be Sunday 5 PM - 8 PM at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637. And Monday 1 PM until service time at the church.
