Mary Lou (Shaver) Matzke, age 69, of Ellis passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 in Ellis. She was born September 28, 1948 in St. Francis, Kansas to Rex and Patsy (Gustafson) Shaver. She was a graduate of St. Francis High School and earned a Bachelors degree in nursing from Fort Hays State University. On December 24, 1973 she married Richard Matzke in North Platte, Nebraska.
Mary was a registered nurse having worked at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland, Hadley Hospital and St. Anthony Hospital now Hays Medical Center where her career spanned 36 years. She was a member of North Oak Community Church in Hays and she enjoyed reading, attending auctions, playing golf, traveling especially to Glenwood Springs and Daytona Beach at the Bahama House. She was an avid supporter of the Maranatha Camp and along with Richard a truly dedicated Ellis High School Wrestling fan.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Ellis; a son, Blake Matzke and wife Amanda and their son, Graeme all of Ellis; a daughter, Wendy Geschwentner and husband Patrick and their children, Moriah and Noah all of Ottawa, Kansas; two brothers, Ned Shaver and wife Vickie and James Shaver all of Hays; two sisters, Vicki Shaver of Dumbarton, Scotland and Sherri Faulkender and husband Stan of Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at North Oak Community Church 3000 Oak Street in Hays. Burial will be at 2:30 PM Mountain time at the Armel Cemetery rural Wray, Colorado.
Visitation will be Monday 5 PM - 8 PM at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Tuesday visitation will be 9 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to North Oak Community Church, Alzheimers Association or Maranatha Camp.
