Mary Elaine Lawson age 70, of Hays, Kansas died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Locust Grove Assisted Living Center, LaCrosse, Kansas.

She was born September 9, 1951, at Stockton, Kansas to Myron F. and Gladys Mae (Bailey) McDowell. She married David E. Lawson on March 1, 1972 at Beloit, Kansas.

She was a homemaker, a member of Liberty Four Square Church, Hays, Kansas, and volunteered at the Sternberg Museum. Mary grew up on a farm east of Stockton, Kansas and attended high school at Woodston and Stockton. She enjoyed cooking, baking, her plants and her animals. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and her family.

Survivors include her husband, David Lawson, of the home; her children, David Shawn Lawson and wife Mandy, Hays, Ks; Heather Stringer and husband, Tony, Hays, KS; Jeremy Lawson and wife, Challa, Peyton, CO; Sarah Windholz and Roy Herman, Hays, KS; Erin Pruter and husband, Joel, Hays, KS; her brother, Steve McDowell and wife, Connie, AZ; her sisters, Fran Beal, Lincoln, NE; Sue LeSage and husband, Mark, Stockton, KS; 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild; and a sister, Eileen Charini.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 21, 2022, at Liberty Four Square Church, 400 East 7th Street, Hays, Kansas with Pastor Steve Schultz officiating. Burial will be in West Hope Cemetery, Stockton, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Friday, at Liberty Four Square Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial to the family for a designated shelter in care of Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
