Obituary
Mary Ann (Schuckman) Herl age 89, died Friday, March 6, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born January 17, 1931, on the farm near Liebenthal, Kansas, to Fred and Anna Loretta (Legleiter) Schuckman. She married Edwin J. Herl on April 26, 1950 at Liebenthal, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1985.
She worker at Skaggs Drug Store, and at St. Anthony Hospital and Hays Medical Center in the dietary department for many years. She attended school in Rush and Ellis counties and was a 1948 graduate from Schoenchen High School. She helped her husband with their farming and ranching operations, and tending her vegetables, flowering gardening and her fruit trees. Mary Ann enjoyed playing piano, guitar, harmonica, singing, cooking, baking, quilting, and sewing for her family and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, working crossword puzzles, writing poetry and short stories, creating artistic items for craft fairs, and had endless energy and would sometimes stay up all night to keep abreast of the current events. Mary Ann was a member of the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Ann Bland and husband, Boyd, Gove, KS, Sharon Kay Jantz, Denver, CO; three sons, Daniel Herl and wife, Pat, Victoria, KS; Neal Herl and special friend, Elaine Chavez, Wichita, KS; W. David Herl, Hays, KS; one brother, Robert Schuckman and wife, Isabelle, Aurora, CO; two sisters, Lucy Unrein and husband, Julius, Hays, KS; Edna Miles, Winter Haven, Fl; 12 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jon) Novak, Jessica (Dennis) Ferguson, Jamie (Misty) Bland, Toby Jantz, Vanessa Jantz, Corey Jantz, Clinton (Ashley) Herl, Danielle (Dale) Windholz, Sheena (Austin) Gagnon, Ashley Lauck, Garrett Herl, Kayleigh Herl; and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; eight brothers, David, Victor, Edwin, Alfred, Gilbert, John, Elmer, Adolph Schuckman, one infant brother, Thomas Schuckman; one sister, Isabel Stremel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas. Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.
A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Monday, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas 67671. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, and from 9:00 to 9:45 A.M. Tuesday, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary Victoria, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to The Basilica of St. Fidelis.
