Marvin "Shorty" Schumacher, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in Hays at the age of 90. Shorty was born to Isidore and Cecilia (Dinges) Schumacher on July 4th 1927 in Hays, Kansas. He graduated from Schoenchen High School. Shorty was united in marriage to Mildred Dreher on May 26, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic in Hays. Together, they celebrated 63 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2010.
Shorty spent his career as a car salesman, manager, and owner/operator for Lincoln Mercury for 40 plus years. He served in the United State Army/Airforce during World War II. Shorty was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a Bishop Cunningham Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He was known as a tremendously hardworking, honest and dedicated family man.
Survivors include son, Tom Schumacher and his wife Debra of Hays, KS; two daughters, Gloria Schumacher of Hays, KS and Tammy Parmer and her husband Sheldon of Houston, TX; two brothers, Donny Schumacher and his wife Karen of Hays, KS and Melvin Schumacher and his wife Norma of Hays, KS; three sisters, Evelyn Dreher and her husband Elmer of Hays, KS, Delores VonFeldt and her husband Gary of Pratt, KS and Carol Staab of Thornton, CO; eight grandchildren, Christopher Schumacher and his wife Dana of Hays, KS, Chandler Schumacher and his wife Jackie of Hays, KS, Aaron Pfeifer and his wife Nicola of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Drake Pfeifer of Las Vegas, NV, Tracy Quinn and her husband Richard of Hays, KS, Jodi Keberlein and her husband Kris of Shawnee Mission, KS, Nichole Miller and her husband Addison of Assaria, KS, Sagan Johnson and her husband Matthew of Austin, TX; eight great-grandchildren, Gavin & Griffin Schumacher of Hays, KS, Giana & Mia Schumacher of Hays, KS, Braxton Pfeifer of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Creighton Keberlein of Shawnee Mission, KS, Lisa & Emily Quinn of Hays, KS and a loving extended family.
Shorty was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred Schumacher; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Alan Schenk; four brothers, Ralph, Eddie, Cletus & Francis Schumacher.
A Funeral Service will be on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine St., Hays, KS 67601. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by the Hays VFW Honor Guard.
A vigil service is at 7:00 P.M., followed by a Bishop Cunningham Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary, Sunday, August 27, at Brocks-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine St., Hays, KS 67601.
Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 P.M., Sunday, at Brocks-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory and from 9-9:30 A.M. on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family Elementary. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
