Marjorie Ann Rome, age 82, of Victoria, Kansas died Monday, May 1, 2023, at Harry Hines Memorial Hospice Center at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS after a short illness.
She was born on January 2, 1941, to Joseph M. and Albina (Kuhn) Rome. She was a 1958 Victoria High School graduate. She graduated from Fort Hays State University with her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Elementary Education.
Marge's passion in life was teaching and interacting with young children. She had a tremendous impact on generations of students.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, the outdoors, and spending time with her many lifelong friends. In recent years, she especially treasured time with her great-nieces and great-nephews and
playing with her great-great-nieces and nephews.
Like her father, Marge was devoted to the interests and well-being of her community. She taught for 38 years at Victoria Elementary School. She was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, St. Fidelis Christian Mothers, St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella, a Eucharistic minister, a CCD teacher, led the Children's Liturgy of the Word, and the annual children's Christmas pageant. She was a founding member and first president of Herzogfest, president of the Victoria Alumni Association, and an active member of the Ellis County Historical Society.
Survivors include her niece, Janet Trombley and husband, Don, Newtown, PA; her nephew, Michael Gross, Lake Quivira, KS; a great-niece, Lauren Smith, husband, Bryan, children, Perry, Owen, Beau, Leawood, KS; a great-nephew, Bret Gross, wife, Kelsey, children, Gwen, Madelyn, Lenexa, KS; a great-nephew, Ryan Trombley, Chicago, IL; great-nephew, Sam Gross, New York, NY; and great-nephew, Will Gross, Austin, TX.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Marie Gross; a sister, Mary Lou Rome; a nephew, Robert Gross; a niece, Virginia Gross; an infant niece, Anne Marie; her parents; and two infant brothers.
Funeral services will be at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas. Burial will be in Saint Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.
