Magdalene E. 'Madge' Gustin, 93, Hays, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Via Christi Village.

She was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Eudora to Albert and Clara (Schehrer) Grosdidier.



She was a 1937 graduate of Eudora High School, a 1941 graduate of St. Margaret Hospital School of Nursing and received

her Kansas registered nurse certification in 1941.

She married James 'Jim' Gustin on Nov. 4, 1941, in Eudora. He preceded her in death.

She was a registered nurse and homemaker in Kansas City, Mo., Mound City and Plattsburg, Mo., before moving to Hays in 1952. She then worked as a floor supervisor at St. Anthony Hospital and operated Hays Answering Service from 1956 to 1969.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Gustin and wife, Karen (Schueler), Gloucester, Va., and Tim Gustin, Houston; a brother, Gerald Grosdidier and wife, Helen; a sister, Arlene (Grosdidier) Krizman and husband, Richard; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Leigh (Ackarman) Gustin; three brothers, Herbert Grosdidier, Bernard Grosdidier and Arthur Grosdidier; and a sister, Rosemary (Grosdidier) Zollars.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Chapel at Via Christi Village, Hays; burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Holy Family Cemetery, Eudora.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Brock's North Hill Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
