Leonard Wegele

Leonard S. Wegele, age 91, of Ellis, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellis. He was born October 31, 1921 in Russell County, Kansas to Solomon and Lydia (Bitter) Wegele. He married Alvina Wiedeman in Milberger, Kansas on October 13, 1946. She preceded him in death on September 28, 1999.

He was a farmer and stockman. He started in Russell County in 1946 and then bought a farm in Ellis in 1955 retiring in 1997. He was a US Army Air force veteran serving from 1942 1946. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis where he taught Sunday school and served on the church council for many years.

He is survived by three sons, Gary Wegele and wife Sharon of Hays, Jerry Wegele of Phoenix, AZ. And Randy Wegele and wife Vi of WaKeeney; two sisters, Viola Wagner of Great Bend and Esther Dumler of Ft. Collins, CO; four grandchildren, Dustin Wegele and wife Marie of Hays, Danielle Wegele of Arkansas, Michael Wegele and wife Rachelle of Longmont, CO. and Mark Wegele of Phoenix. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Otto, Walter and infant brother, Roland.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis.

Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. all at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS. 67637. Visitation on Thursday will be 9:00 A.M. 9:45 A.M. at the church.
