LaVier L. Staven, age 94, of Hays, passed away Saturday, July 25 at his home. He was born August 5, 1920 in Waukesha, WI to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Staven. He married Norma C. (Pringle) in 1943.
LaVier was a longtime educator at Fort Hays State University. He started as an associate professor of education, professor of education, chairman of the school of education and the dean of the school of education. He was an avid golfer and he served on numerous civic and professional organizations throughout the community. He was a gunnery officer in the US Navy during WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Norma of the home, three sons, Bruce Staven of Wichita, Rex Staven and wife Linda of Salina and Richard Staven of Hays; a granddaughter, Lawna Staven of Scottsdale; two nephews Mark Staven and Gary Staven and a niece, Mary Beth Staven.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph Staven.
Private family funeral services are being handled by Brocks-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Burial with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW.
