Obituary
Catherine Marie "Katie" (Gerhardt) Rohr age 91years 11 months and 29 days, of Hays, Kansas died Monday, May 16, 2022, at Via Christi Village Care Center in Hays.
She was born May 17, 1930, on the family farm at Emmeram, Kansas to Michael and Florence (Coon) Brungardt Gerhardt. Katies mother Florence was brought to Kansas on the Orphan Train in the early 1900s and was raised by the Anton and Barbara Brungardt family. Katie married Clarence J. Rohr on May 27, 1948 at Emmeram. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2003.
Katie worked as a cook at St. Johns New Horizon and Via Christi Village Assisted Living for over 20 years, and retired in 2009. She also was at Travenol for 17 years and was there until they closed. She grew up on the farm at Emmeram and attended the Emmeram Grade School. In her early years she worked at The Lammer Hotel, and the old St. Anthony Hospital both in Hays. Katie and Clarence raised their family on their farm South-West of Hays, and then in 1980 they moved into town. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.
Katie enjoyed dancing, playing cards, cooking and baking, making noodles, bingo, and her family.
Survivors include her children, Linda Height and husband, James, Hays, KS; Wanda Oborny and husband, Paul, Hays, KS; Gary Rohr and wife, Vivian, Peoria, AZ; her nine grandchildren, Lisa Dudenhoeffer (Dan); Lori Brungardt (Glenn); Lambert Schlyer; Melanie McCoy (Casey); Kevin Storm (Missy); Scott Rohr (Niki); Mike Rohr (Jean); Mindi Stahl; Brandi Oakley (Seth); her one step-grandchild, Trent Oborny (Kayli); her 20 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild on the way.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her six brothers, August Gerhardt; Bonaventure Gerhardt; Anton Gerhardt; Herman Gerhardt; Donald Gerhardt; Michael Gerhardt Jr.; her five sisters, Felicitas Windholz; Mary Hertel; Anna Roberson; Betty Younger; and Genevieve Unrein-Weber-Edsall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 20, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine, Hays, Kansas with Father Nick Parker Officiating. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
A vigil service and a Hays Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Friday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
The family suggests memorials to Immaculate Heart of Mary Building Fund or masses in care of the mortuary.
