Karen Ann Baczkowski, 61 of Hays, left us to enter into eternal peace with Jesus on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Northcare Hospice and Palliative Care in North Kansas City, MO. after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma. Karen was born on November 18, 1953 in Hays, Kansas to Alfred and Rita Mae (Jacobs). She grew up in Pfeifer, Kansas, and attended Holy Cross School and Victoria High School, graduating in 1971.
Her love of helping others led her to become a registered nurse. She specialized in psychiatric nursing, working many years in facilities in Kansas and California. Karen returned to Kansas in 2012 to be closer to her family, completing her nursing career as Clinical Supervisor at Senior Focused Care at Hays Medical Center. She loved to read, garden and most importantly, spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Karen leaves loving memories to be cherished by her father and step-mother, Alfred and Virginia Jacobs of Kansas City, MO, sons, Jeff (Kayla) and Nathan (Erin) Baczkowski all of Hays; grandsons, Brooks and Brody Baczkowski of Hays; brothers, Fred (Jane) Jacobs of Louisville, KY and Tim (Joyce) Jacobs of Olathe, KS; sister, Stacy (John) Miller of Kansas City, MO; step-sisters, Cheryl Alexander of Great Bend, KS, Debra (Ed) Moss of Coats, KS, Nancy (John) Wetig of Great Bend, KS, and Lisa Crain of Larned, KS; step-brothers, Mark Crain of Great Bend, KS and Mike (Renay) Crain of Eades, CO; and adorning niece, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephew.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Rita Mae Jacobs.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 13th and Ash, Hays, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday and 9:30 10:00 am Wednesday all at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, Kansas.
A parish vigil service will be 6:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Northcare Hospice & Palliative Care (www.northcarehospice.org), or to an educational fund for her grandchildren (c/o Brocks Keithley Funeral Chapel).
