John Joseph Landauer Jr., age 92, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis.
John was born February 12, 1931, on the family farm to Frank and Zelma (Brown) Landauer. He married Wilma Kleweno and they later divorced. They had two sons, Barry and John “Bo”.
John Graduated from Ellis High School in 1949 and joined the United States Navy after graduation. After he was discharged, he returned home to help with the family farm and raise cattle. John then made his way to Independence, Missouri working for Sears where he was a store manager for 25 years. After his retirement from Sears, he returned to Ellis and continued his work on the family farm.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a life member of the Hays VFW. He enjoyed hunting, socializing, and playing cards at the Ellis Golf Club.
John is survived by one brother, Roger Landauer and wife Pat of Salina, KS; two sisters, Adeline Henderson of Ellis and Carol Evans of Garland TX; two grandchildren Rachel Landauer of Merriam, KS and Ryan Landauer of Omaha NE; as well as four great grandchildren.
He is preceded by his parents, Frank and Zelma; two sons Barry Landauer and John “Bo” Landauer; two brothers, Gilbert and Milfred; and an infant sister, Linda Landauer.
Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday 5 PM - 7 PM with a combined vigil and rosary service at 7 PM all at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Friday visitation will be from 9 AM until service time at the church as well.
