John William "Bill" Grimes DDS, age 84, of Smith Center, KS passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Hays Medical Center. He was born September 19, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK to Chester and Velma (Jack) Grimes. He married Patricia (Todd) on October 21, 1958 in Lawton, OK.
Bill was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a long time Dentist in Smith Center serving the community for over 50 years. He was also very active in community and humanitarian work. He was a member of the Smith Center United Methodist Church, Rotary were he had served as District Governor in 1996 and he was a Shriner.
He is survived by his wife Patricia of the home; two sons, Robert Grimes (Geri) of Austin, TX and Gary Grimes of Smith Center; two daughters, Annalee Ratliff (Alvie) of Athol, KS and Meribeth Lambert (Clark) of Smith Center; a brother, Jack Grimes (Gail) of Clarksville, GA; a sister, Dee Ann Faulkner (Ted) of Garden Grove, CA, six grandchildren, Zachary Lambert of Kansas City, Grant Lambert of Smith Center, Sammy Lambert of Kansas City, Ethan Kuhlman of Athol, KS, Owen Grimes of Austin, TX and Brook Grimes of Oklahoma City, OK and three great grandchildren, Tessa Lambert, Baylinn Lake and Lauren Grimes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dean Grimes and a grandson, Chet Kuhlman.
A Celebration of Life service and reception will be 2 PM - 5 PM Sunday, February 23 at the Evangelical Free Church in Smith Center. Private family inurnment at a later date.
