Joe Locker Jr., age 92, of Ellis, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. He was born July 2, 1924 in Trego County, Kansas to Joe and Mary (Schuster) Locker Sr. On May 7, 1946, he married Lillian Weber at St. Marys Church in Ellis.
Joe was a retired Bus Supervisor with the Ellis USD 388 school system. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII. Joe was also a volunteer rural fireman with the Glencoe Township Rural Fire department in Trego County. He helped establish the Glencoe Township fire department as well as re-worked, designed and built a donated Forrest Service truck into the first Glencoe Fire Department Fire truck. He enjoyed mechanic work, metal lathing, making rosaries and was always willing to help neighbors and friends when needed.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Ellis; daughter, Patricia Luea and husband Paul of Ellis; brother, Lawrence Locker of Ellis; a son-in-law, Tom McMahon of Roseville, CA; four grandsons, Sean McMahon and wife Ashleigh, Jason Luea and wife Samantha, Jonas Luea and Joseph McMahon; eight great grandchildren, Laura Berry, Laurenne Fraser, Zayn McMahon, Abby Luea, Teag McMahon, Jacob Luea, Keyan McMahon and Jonathan Luea; a niece, Jessica Smith and four nephews, Larry, John, Steve and Tom Locker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela McMahon and two sisters, Mary and Anna Locker.
Funeral services will be 2 PM on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors courtesy of the Ellis and Hays VFW Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Wednesday 5 PM - 8 PM with a combined rosary and vigil service at 7 PM all at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th Ellis, KS 67637.
Thursday visitation will be 1 PM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ellis VFW or Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital.
