Obituary



Joe F. Lobato, age 77 of Hays, Kansas died Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

He was born May 5, 1945, in Fruita, Colorado to Benjamin and Lena (Serato) Lobato.

Joe married Carol (Smith) on April 10, 1970, at Fruita, Colorado.

He was raised and attended school in Fruita, and lived in the Colby and Selden, Kansas area for 50 years. He was a welder for the Golden Plains Ag Tech in Colby and retired in 2021. Joe and Carol moved to Hays in May of 2022. He enjoyed fishing and attending the grandkids school and sports activities.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; his children, Joe Lobato and wife, Sandra, Ellis, KS; John Lobato and wife, Angie, Salina, KS; Janelle Lobato and husband, John Gay, Hays, KS; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jace Lobato; three brothers and two sisters.

A private family service and inurnment will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorials made payable to: The City of Selden (for the walking path) in care of the mortuary.
