Gerald P. "Jerry" Laprade age 83, of Hays, Kansas died Monday, October 12, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born September 9, 1937, in Easthampton, Massachusetts to George and Amanda (LaPointe) Laprade. He married Doraleen (Kuhn) on August 8, 1962 at Victoria, Kansas.

He was a French and American History teacher at St. Francis Seminary in Victoria, and at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays. He also taught French at St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and part time at Fort Hays State University. He grew up in Easthampton, MA, and was a graduate of Holy Oke High School. He went to broadcasting school in Massachusetts, and worked in Iola, Concordia, and here in Hays at KAYS. He attended Cloud County Community College in Concordia. He received his Bachelors Degree in Science, and his Masters Degree in French, at Fort Hays State College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, and was stationed in Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Hawaii. After teaching he enjoyed huck weaving, was an avid gardener, and a marathon runner. He participated in 42 marathons, and many 10ksruns, 5ks runs, and half marathons. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Adoration Chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Doraleen Laprade, of the home; one brother Donald Laprade, Tuners Falls, MA; two sisters, Edna Laliberte, Easthampton, MA; Irene Labrie and husband, Armand, Southampton, MA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ernest Laprade, Father George L Laprade, Roland Laprade, Wilfred Laprade, Edmond Laprade; and one sister, Eleanor Perras.

A private funeral mass will be a The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas. A private burial will be at St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas with military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post # 1751. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Masses in care of the mortuary.
