Harriet Louise Demaree

Harriet Louise (Smith) Demaree, of Goodland, passed away Friday, May 27th at the Hays Good Samaritan Center. She was born on November 30, 1931 in Goodland to Samuel and Yvonne (Woolard) Smith. She attended school in Goodland for several years then returned to school and graduated in 1963. She then attended Northwest Technical College and earned a degree in accounting. She married Thurl Demaree on August 31, 1948 in Colby. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2006 in Hays.As a resident of the Hays Good Samaritan Center she volunteered at Washington Elementary were she helped children with reading. She was resident council president for Hays Good Sam. She was an avid golfer and a member of Sugar Hills Country Club, St. Paul's Episcopal Church serving on the Alter Guild and she was an active member of the Goodland High School Alumni Association.She is survived by a son, Bruce of Wichita, KS; two daughters, Kathy (John) Hafliger of Hays and Denise Hilty of Victoria. She is also survived by a sister, Sally Michael of Hays; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thurl, three brothers, Robert, Morris "Smitty" and infant Jeffery and a sister, Joline (Smith) Kear.Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Hays. Inurnment arrangements by Bateman Funeral Home of Goodland will be Tuesday afternoon in the Goodland Cemetery at 4:00 P.M. CST. Local arrangements in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel of Hays.Memorials are suggested to be used according to the wishes of the family and may be sent in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601.
