Harold Vine

Harold Wesley Vine, age 91 of Ellis, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Via Christi Village in Hays. He was born November 23, 1922 in Hays, KS to Herbert Wesley and Ortha Ester (Hinkel) Vine. He married Waunetta Helen (Turner) October 30, 1942 in Ellis, KS. She preceded him in death in 2008.



Harold was a farmer and merchant most of his working life working his own farm and Harolds Mens Wear. He later started Harolds refinishing. Harold was a US Army veteran of WWII serving with the Counter Intelligance Corp. He was a member of St. Andrews Church and a charter member of the High Plains Long Rifle Club and was active in Ellis community organizations. Harold was well known for his story telling and willingness to visit with family and friends.



He is survived by three daughters, Teresa Karlin and husband Norbert of Hays, Barbara Augustine and husband Kenneth of Grove, OK and Shyrell Haas and husband Jim of Hays; two sons, Denis Vine and Mary Lou McDonald, and Kevin Vine and wife Patricia all of Ellis. 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandson, and 5 great-great grandchildren also survive him.



He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents and two grandchildren, Taryn Haas and Nancy Karlin.



Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Andrews Church 2424 Hyacinth Ave in Hays. Inurment will follow services in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis with military honors by the Ellis VFW.



Visitation with family will be Wednesday 6 PM 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th Ellis, KS. 67637.
