Harold Arthur Deutscher, age 90, of Ellis passed away peacefully on October 5, 2013 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on July 17, 1923 on the family farm west of Ellis, Ks to Gustav and Mary (Spilker) Deutscher. He married Pauline Sundquist Scott December 31, 1965 at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis.
Harold was a farmer and stockman. Concerned with good farming practices, he was awarded a KBS Soil Conservation in 1988.
In his youth, he enjoyed playing baseball with his many cousins. He was an avid bowler. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. He belonged to the Elks Club in Hays, Ks. All of his grandchildren learned how to drive a vehicle on the farm with Grandpa Harold. He was a most patient and courageous driving instructor.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; his sister, Betty Calvert of Hays; a niece, Kathryn Calvert of Wichita, KS; a nephew, William Calvert of Salina, KS; two step children, Susan Campbell of Saugerties, NY and James Scott of Castle Rock, CO. He was admired and loved by his seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Cecil Calvert Jr.
Services will be 2 PM Saturday, October 12th at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial will follow services in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday 6 PM - 8 PM at Keithley Funeral chapel and Saturday 1 PM until service time at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Christ Lutheran Church or Good Samaritan Society, Ellis in his name.
