H. Edward Lecuyer

H. Edward Lecuyer, age 87, of Hays formerly of Ellis, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Hays Medical Center. He was born December 14, 1924 in Ellis to Dr. Anthol and Mary (Henchey) Lecuyer. He married Marjie Shepherd on July 20, 1957 in Craig, Colorado at the Congregational Church.

Edward was a Co-Founder of Merrick & Company of Aurora, Colorado, which provides Engineering, Architecture, Design-Build, GeoSpatial and Surveying solutions. During his time with the company Edward served as vice president, director, senior vice president, chairman of the Board of Directors and was currently serving as Chairman Emeritus.

Edward left Kansas to attend Colorado School of Mines. His studies were interrupted when he was called into Army service, ultimately seeing action from the Battle of the Bulge to the end of World War II in Europe and earning a Bronze Star. He returned to school after his military service earning a bachelors of science in civil engineering from Colorado A&M University, now Colorado State University.

Survivors include his wife, Marjie of Hays, a daughter, Lynn Alms and husband Doran of Branson, MO and sons Greg, Eric and Derek Alms.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Gordon Lecuyer.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS. 67637. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with Military Honors by the Hays VFW. There will be no public visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the Ellis Library and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
