Greta Joan Porter

Greta Joan Porter, age 84, of Hays, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at her residence. She was born November 8, 1929 in Ulysses, Kansas to Charles Wayne "Bus" and Virginia (Hillary) Leierer.



On May 22, 1948Joan was united in marriage to Lewis "Luke" Dale Porter at the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses. two children, Jeffrey Dale and Tamara Jo were born to this union. Luke and Joan resided in Ulysses and raised their family until Luke was transferred to Denver in 1972. They were at home in Denver and Mesa, Arizona until moving to Hays on January 1, 2004 to be closer to family.



Joan was preceeded in death by her parents and her son, Jeff. She leaves behind many friends and loved ones including her beloved husband of 65 years, Lewis D. Porter of Hays, a daughter, Tamara Jo Porter (Charles) Wilhelm of Hays; a daughter-in-law, Eddi Porter of Houston; a sister, Karen (Ron) Edgington of rural Ulysses; a brother, Richard "Dick" Leierer of Ulysses; four grandchildren, Tyler, Tenelle and Tyson Porter and Noelle Connolly; 4 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and faithful friends.



A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date to be held in Ulysses. Inurnment will follow services in the Ulysses Cemetery.A rrangements in care of Brock's Funeral Chapel ~ 2509 Vine ~ Hays, KS. 67601



Memorials in Joan's memory are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of Hays medical center or the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
