Glenn "Spot" Honas

Glenn "Spot" Honas, age 82 of Ellis, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. He was born July 6, 1931 in Ransom, Kansas to Edward and Agnes (Steckline) Honas Sr. He married Bertha Gaschler January 4, 1952 in Ellis at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She preceded him in death February 8, 1972.



Glenn had worked in construction and the oilfields and retired as a farmhand from Kohl Farms. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Ellis VFW. He enjoyed his grandchildren, watching KU basketball and March Madness every year.



He is survived by two brothers, Art Honas and wife Shirley and Oscar Honas and wife Betty all of Ellis; a sister, Delores Schmeidler of Hays; a grandson, Travis Honas of San Diego; granddaughters, Sara Evans and husband Shawn of Russell, Samantha Schwein and husband Toby of Russell and Amber Robinson and husband Casey of Alaska. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Cade, Bailey, Cael and Caleigh Evans of Russell, Jakob and Connor Schwein of Russel and Landon Robinson of Alaska.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Douglas L. Honas; 8 brothers, Clarence, Frank, Eddie, Joe, Rudolph, Ernest and infants Edward and John and a sister, Irene Dinkel.



Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors courtesy of the Ellis VFW.



Visitation will be Tuesday 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM all at St. Mary's Church. A parish vigil will be Tuesday at 7:00 PM followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary service. Services in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637.
