Ethel Ann Gatschet

Ethel Ann Gatschet, 72, Hays, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Hays Medical Center. She was born October 31, 1939 in Victoria, Kansas to Pius and Anna (Sander) Leiker. She graduated from Victoria High School, Victoria, Kansas in 1957 and attended and graduated from the St. Anthony School of Nursing, Hays, Kansas in 1960. She married George P. Gatschet on September 10, 1960 at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas.



She worked as a nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital and was a former owner of Flower by Frances working there as a bookkeeper until her retirement in December, 2011. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was a staunch supporter of Catholic Schools.



Survivors include her husband, George Gatschet of Hays, four daughters, Kathy Klitzke and husband Rege, Wichita, Ks. Carol Staples and husband Richard, Joyce Rupp and husband Kevin, and Lisa Craig all from Hays. Seven grandchildren, Kaitlan Klitzke, Jacob Klitzke, Erica Fisher, Maria Cutright, Richard A. Staples, Lesley Hagar, Danielle Craig; four great-grand children. Four sisters: Armella Thompson, Aquina Rajewski, Theresa Haselhorst, Mary Ellen Schmidtberger; two brothers, Robert Leiker and Laurian Leiker.



She was proceeded in death by her parents; two sisters, Luella Dreiling, Rosaline Wiesner; three brothers, Gilbert Leiker, Elmer Leiker and Neon Leiker. Two great-grandchildren, Hannah Staples and infant baby Hagar.



Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays with burial following in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.



Visitation will be Friday 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and Saturday 11:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. all at Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601



A parish vigil service will be at 7:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.





Memorials are suggested to the St. Thomas More Society at TMP-Marian for the benefit of local, Catholic education, a deep passion of Ethel's evidenced by her family's commitment and tireless support and prayer for our Catholic schools over the years.
