Elvira Hermine Dubach, 94, Ellis, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Jan. 7, 1917, in Ellis County to Fred and Emma (Deutscher) Schoenthaler. She attended a country grade school, graduated from Ellis High School and earned a degree from Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. She married ABC (Bliss) Dubach on Jan. 25, 1939. He preceded her in death in 2000. She worked 19 years at Fort Hays State University in the alumni office. She was a loving wife and mother, and was active in her church and her children's school activities. She served as president of the women's Missionary Society, United Lutheran Church of America and traveled for the organization throughout the country. She was a member of the Eastern Star and served as a Worthy Matron. She was a tireless supporter of anything "Ellis." She was instrumental in the "Follow the Stars" Christmas decoration committee. She was a charter member of the Ellis AARP. She volunteered each year helping citizens to prepare their federal and state taxes. She was a past president of AARP. She brought the Milestone Dinner to Ellis, which has been in practice for more than 20 years. She received the "Woman of the Year" award for the Ellis ARRP Chapter and also received a National AARP award for her outstanding service. Survivors include a son, Aaron B.C. Dubach and wife, Sylvia, Frost, Texas; a daughter, Linda Kay Vochatzer and husband, Jack, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Bernie Schoenthaler, Ellis; seven grandchildren, Dawn Dubach, Ellis, Shannon Dubach, Texas, and Jaylynn Dubach, Georgia, and Troy and wife, Kenda, Eric, Craig and wife, Kathy, and Jennifer, all of Kansas City, Mo.; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Raymond Schoenthaler. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637, and from 10 a.m. Monday until time of service at the church. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church, Ellis, in care of the funeral home.
