Elmer Stecklein

Elmer Richard Stecklein, 77, of Hays, died Thursday, Sept. 6th at the Andbe Home in Norton. He was born March 1, 1935 in Pfeifer, Kansas to Joe C. and Catherine (Wasinger) Stecklein.

He was a police officer for several years in Ellis and worked at Moons IGA in Osawatomie. He was a US Air Force veteran. He was an accomplished musician who could play guitar, accordian and violin. He also enjoyed raising horses and attending Saddle Club Shows. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Lee Scott and husband Ronald R. of Russell and Sydney Jo Freeman and husband Henry of Paola, KS; two brothers, Ronald J. Stecklein of Olathe and Leroy F. Stecklein of Osawatomie; three sisters, Rose M. Koerner of Hays, Theresa A. Gottschalk of Hays, and Charlene Weigel of Gorham; three grandchildren, Tricia L. Stecklein, Rayann M. Rassette and Joseph R. Heinitz; two step grandchildren, Christina M. Noah and Kendra J. Merritts and two step great grandchildren, Isabell Martin and Keagan W. Merritts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald L. Stecklein and Richard C. Wasinger; three sisters, Dolores Dreher, Betty L. Stecklein and Mary J. Stecklein.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in WaKeeney Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the Hays VFW.

Visitation will be Sunday 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601. A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Elmer Stecklein Memorial Fund to be used according to the wishes of the family and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
