Obituary
Edmund Lee McCabe, age 89, died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society of Ellis, Ellis, Kansas.
He was born August 1, 1929, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Lester and Ella (Penn) McCabe. Ed grew up in Kansas and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1948 and went on to attend the Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. In 1950 he began a 35-year career with Laughlin-Simmons Co. of Oklahoma City, as an oil field surveyor. In 1985 he began his own oil field survey company "American Elevations, Inc.", retiring in 1996. He is a veteran of the Korean War, serving in Japan and Korea with the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and was a long-time member of the Russell and Hays VFW Post.
He was married for 63 years to Martha Jean (Sandidge) until her death in 2016. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Lee McCabe, Wichita, KS; Amy Stump and husband, Frank, Thornton, CO; daughter-in-law, Teresa McCabe, Quitman, GA; a grandson, Matthew Dorzweiler, Hutchinson, KS; two granddaughters, Sara Masura and husband, Jon, Bayfield, CO; Lisa Dorzweiler, Wichita, KS; four-step-grandchildren, Nathan Dreiling and wife, Kasey, Hays, KS; Scott Stump and wife, Sarah, Macon, GA; Jim Stump, Portland, OR; and Jennifer (Stump)Patterson and husband, Leonard, Renton, WA; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Henry and Minnie Mae (Austin) Sandidge; his wife, Martha Jean, and his son, John Ed McCabe; his brothers,
Lester, Raymond, Irvin "Toot", and one infant brother, Bardell; his sisters, Rocena Ulrich and Jo Ella Patterson.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 1, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 12th and Fort, Hays, Kansas. Military honors will be conducted by the Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076. A private family inurnment will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 31st at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd , Hays, KS 67601 and from 9:30 to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, at the church.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church-Hays in care of the mortuary.
