Obituary



Edmund Befort, age 100, of Hays, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. He was born February 15, 1920 in Ellis County, Kansas to George and Elizabeth (Leiker) Befort. On July 2, 1945 he married Albina Pfeifer. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2018.

Edmund was a dedicated lifelong farmer and stockman and also was a dairy farmer for many years. He was a US Army veteran serving in WWII in Europe and the Philippines.

He is survived by three sons, Albert Befort of Shawnee, OK, Thomas Befort and wife Connie of Wichita, KS and Peter Befort and wife Amy of Hays; two daughters, Marilyn Billinger and husband Robert of Victoria and Mary Hanway of Claremont, CA; nine grandchildren, Kenny, Andrea, Max, Marissa, Michael, Amanda, Darren, Kurt and Larissa and 14 great grandchildren, Julian, Brooklyn, Mackenzie, Jaden, Alexus, Brianna, Olivia, Claire, Austin, Luke, Raegan, Karley, Parker and Halle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, John James Befort and Joseph Befort; a grandson, Logan Befort; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Befort; a son-in-law, Derek Hanway, brothers, August, Isidore and John Befort and sisters, Victoria Herklotz, Adeline Engel, Domitilla "Tillie" Pfannenstiel, Clarita Koerner and Angela Brungardt.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, November 9, 2020 at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Burial with Military Honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be Sunday 6 PM - 8 PM and Monday 9:30 AM until service time all at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hays VFW Honor Guard.
