Leona M. Gallion was born to Arthur Gallion and Leona Gittinger on the farm southeast of Grinnell, Kansas on September 16th, 1935, and passed away on October 29th, 2024, at Hays Kansas.
She graduated from Grinnell high school in 1953 and Fort Hays State University in 1957. She taught at Colby high school and then received her master's degree in business education from the university of Northern Colorado in 1960. From 1960 to 1968 she taught business and economics at Fort Hays State University. She then finished her work on her EdD in business education and embarked on a career at Indiana State University, which took her from associate professor to the Dean of the school of business.
After she retired, she moved to Surprise, Arizona then eventually returned to live in Hays, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wilf Gallion and his wife Joan.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Janet Gallion, Mike Gallion, Stan Gallion, Kathy (Roger) Marston and her great niece: Stephanie (Kelby) Bodley and their son, Evan. Together with her lifelong special friend: Bruce Kavan.
Memorial services will be held at a later date, in Grinnell, Kansas when Leona’s family is able to travel and get together to honor her life and celebrate her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Grinnell, Kansas.
