Donald J. Walters, age 81, of Hays, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at Hays Medical Center. He was raised by Jacob and Anna (Arnold) Walters. He married Mary Lou Armbruster in Ellis, Kansas on November 20, 1955.
He is a retired M/Sgt. Of the United States Air force, having served in Germany and Vienna, Austria during the four powers occupation of WWII and in Vietnam in 1967. He served as a repair and maintenance technician of the radar weapons guidance system on F-4c, D&E Aircraft. He was assigned to the Netherlands to teach repair and maintenance of the radar weapons guidance system on the new F4-E aircraft as it was assigned to bases in Germany and the Netherlands.
He was co-owner with his wife of Leisure Homes, Inc., Shenandoah, IA. He was a member of the Manufactured Housing Industry for 24 years. He is a member of the Air force Sergeants Association, lifetime member of the Russell VFW, and the retired Enlisted Association. He was a volunteer docent at Sternberg Museum and Christ Lutheran Church of Ellis where he served as Church Council President.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of the home; a daughter, Lou Ann Martin and husband bob of Germantown, MD.; two sons, Michael and wife Jan of Parker, CO. and Mark and wife Barbara of Liberty, MO. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Interment will be at the Kansas State Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney.
Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS. 67637. Friday visitation will be 9:30 A.M. service time at the church.
A prayer service will be 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
