Donald Storer

Donald Dwayne Storer, age 77, of Hays, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. He was born August 20, 1934 in Studley, KS to Olin Franklin and Opal L. (Shepard) Storer. He married Vera Cassity on September 8, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church in Hays.



He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Upon returning home from his military service he was a barber in Hays and Hoxie and then went to college at Fort Hays State University where he received a bachelors degree in mathematics in 1962. He taught math at Ransom Junior/Senior High School for 31 years. While teaching, he went back to school and earned his Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University. During his summers, he would help with harvest and farming in the Brownell area where he was known to be an excellent handyman. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's school and sports activities. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening.



He was a member of the Hays First United Methodist Church, a past member of the Brownell United Methodist Church, a member of the Brownell American Legion for 37 years, a member of the Brownell Volunteer Fire department and was Mayor of Brownell for 40 years.



He is survived by his wife, Vera of Hays; two sons, Dave (Debbie) Storer and Doug (Erin) Storer all of Hays; two daughters, Lisa (Troy) Renz of Hays and Lori (Jim) Foster of Ransom; a brother, Rex Storer of Hoxie; two sisters, Pat Adams of Tasco, KS and Beverly Turner of Hill City. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jeff (Hayley) Bieker, Greg Bieker, Dustin Foster, Taylor Renz, Hunter Storer, Courtney Storer, Drew Foster, and Logan Renz and two great grandchildren, Brooke and Owen Bieker.



His parents preceded him in death.



Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Hays First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Vansburgh Cemetery near Brownell. Military Honors by the Brownell American Legion Post 382.



Visitation will be Monday 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Tuesday visitation will be 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church.



Memorials are suggested to the Brownell American Legion or Cedar Bluff South Shore Cabin Association.
